How do you calibrate a scale using HI 200DNWM Series B?

Last updated 05/16/2017 08:34 AM

Question

I have a HI 200DNWM on DeviceNet talking to the ControlLogix and am having problems calibrating my scale. Can you provide a step by step guide to do this including what parameters I need to change from default?

Answer

There are only two parameters that you need to be aware of before trying to start a calibration.
If you are doing a C2 calibration, you need to insure your Cal Low Weight parameter (either parameter 35 or 36 depending on if lbs or kgs) is set to your reference weight.
If you are doing a hard calibration, you need to insure your Cal Low Weight parameter is set to your low cal weight and your Span parameter (either parameter 4 or 23 depending on if lbs or kgs) is set to your high cal weight.

The step by step procedure would be:

1.  Set your Cal Low Weight parameter to your reference weight.
2.  If you are doing a hard cal, set your Span parameter to your high weight.
3.  Insure the live weight on the scale is equal to your Cal Low reference weight.
4.  C2 cal only: (If doing a Hard cal skip step 4 and go to step 5.)  For a C2 cal, change parameter 22 to a value of 1.  This runs the C2 calibration.  This completes your calibration.  Jump to step #9.
5.  If doing a Hard cal, change parameter 20 to a value of 1.  This runs the Cal Low command.
6.  Place weight on the scale equal to the amount set for your span value.
7.  Set parameter 21 to a value of 1.  This runs the Cal High command.  This completes your calibration.
8.  NOTE:  You should change parameters 20, 21, & 22 (which ever were used) back to value of 0 after command completes.
9.  A command to write to non-volatile memory should be run after completion of calibration.  This is done by setting parameter 38 to a value of 1.  (should set back to 0 after completion.)

Find attached a copy of sample code for the ControlLogix system showing running the C2 calibration command.  This does not show setting the parameters.

Attached is a document specifying what you need to be aware of in setting up a module. These instructions apply only to the HI 200DNWM Series B modules, as they have the Command Interface. If you have a Series A module, you would need to use Explicit Messages to do a calibration. You can find that information using WebTech and searching on the word explicit.
